Hence, as 2023 had been one testing year for Meghan Markle and Prince Harry, the breadcrumbs of those mishaps might be still lingering above the royal heads. And although Markle’s journey from the American land to the UK has never been short of royal scrutiny, a cutting remark from the Queen’s end on her wedding dress being “too white” has resurfaced, thanks to the imperial stare. 

Even though Markle has been a victim of sovereign observation over the years, this insight seems particularly bitter to receive despite the reasoning.

Queen’s remark on Meghan Markle’s wedding dress

When Meghan Markle tied the knot with Prince Harry in May 2018, the world may have welcomed the American bride with open arms to the royal soil. While most adored her Givenchy wedding dress at the moment before subjecting it to scrutiny, it seems that the Queen had some reservations. Daily Mail reports Ingrid Seward’s writing in her new revelatory book about the Queen’s leering concerns regarding Markle’s wedding dress being “too white” due to her status of being a divorcee she shared with her cousin Lady Elizabeth over a telephonic conversation. 

As per the expert view, the reason for the same was because the Queen was not content with a “divorcee getting remarried in the church to look quite so flamboyantly virginal.” Furthermore, the Queen also stated worries regarding the Prince of Wales’s decision to stand in for Markle’s father. The reports further discuss that the Queen was also painstakingly dismayed with Prince Harry’s behavior both before and after the wedding, especially with his leave from the country.

While the Queen’s apprehensions seemed rather conflicting, she was not the only one with these shared reservations about Meghan Markle. Even Prince Philip felt differently about the Duchess.

Prince Philip’s remarks about Meghan Markle

One would have thought that the staggering loss of over $8.8 million over a lesser-known royal protocol was the biggest news of the Duke and the Duchess’ wedding. However, the same does not feel true because, from the day Markle stepped into the royal household, debacles have never run out. So much so that Prince Philip even found a striking resemblance to Markle with the Duchess of Windsor, Wallis Simpson.

Wallis Simpson was an American divorcee whose joining the royal clan came along with frequent royal rifts. Furthermore, Simpson always came as a reminder for openly mocking the Queen. While Prince Philip never nudged from his point of view regarding Markle’s similarity with the Duchess of Windsor, over time, even the Queen had her reservations about Markle’s wedding dress.
