Prince Harry’s Heartwarming Return to WellChild Awards: A Look Back at His Touching Moment From Last Year
Prince Harry has been a longstanding supporter of charity work. Believing in the work of good deed, the Duke of Sussex had been involved in several such pursuits since a young age. One of his long-standing works has been the Invictus Games. Started as a sporting endeavor to honor sick and injured veterans of the army, he created a multi-sport event in their honor. Not only was he the founding patron in 2014, but the Duke also dedicated his recent Heart of Invictus to it. Meghan Markle’s and the Duke’s brainchild, Archewell Productions, joined hands with Netflix for the docuseries.
Prince Harry has been involved in a charitable organization that provides care to seriously ill children. Like his noble patronage of the war veterans, he is also a patron of WellChild. Here is a look back at when he won the heart of a little girl at the Awards function in 2017.

The Duke of Sussex has always demonstrated his kind and empathetic nature. Leaving the viewers of the first episode of Heart of Invictus teary-eyed, the Prince has a knack for expressing his compassion through his work. Attending the 2017 WellChild Awards, the Duke won over the heart of a young girl, Erin Cross. An awardee at the event, the Duke kneeled down on the ground to reach the shy girl’s height. He was carrying a picture frame in his hand, trying to make the little child feel comfortable. The Prince was focused on creating a cozy ambiance for Cross between the commotion and shutter sounds.
In a heartwarming gesture, he even shielded the girl’s face with the frame, trying to protect her from the overwhelming presence of the crowd around them. The sweet gesture won the hearts of the little girl immediately and of people all over the world. She was seen giggling and immediately warming up to the Duke. The kindness and love he radiated traveled across the room.
Undoubtedly, the Duke has an empathetic nature that translates into his actions. But this comes from years of experience of being personally trampled by the press.

The Prince has been honest about his distaste of the press and its effect on his childhood for some time now. Even suing media houses in the UK, the Duke of Sussex blamed tabloids for ruining his childhood and causing distress at a young age. This is probably why he stood against them, when the tabloids focused him and his wife for almost everything.
He later revealed that it was something he had worn at the suggestion of Prince William and Kate Middleton. The tabloids blew it out of proportion and held him at stake. Knowing the overwhelming nature of cameras and the paparazzi himself, his touching gesture for the girl stemmed from a place of natural empathy.
