Prince Harry’s Invictus Games Return to the UK Could Worsen Tensions in the Royal Family, Claims Expert
In 2014, during the first Invictus Games in London, senior royals rallied behind Prince Harry in support of the venture. However, much has changed since then. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are now known as the “Californian Royals”. They have also seen a decline in the support they once received from the royal family. Now, with the possibility of the Sussexes returning to the UK for the upcoming Invictus Games, the royal family could face some major difficulties, especially when they are already dealing with their own problems.
Alongside their strained connections with the royal family and the UK populace, the Sussexes' potential return to the UK also intersects with another significant issue that could create problems for both them and the family.

Prince Harry is coming back to the UK for the 10th Invictus Games anniversary. He will be giving a speech at St. Paul’s Cathedral on May 8, as reported by the Daily Express. But as royal correspondent Victoria Ward from the Telegraph pointed out, the royal family might be in a pickle with Prince Harry's return after he moved to the US with Meghan Markle after Prince Harry lost a court battle over his security arrangements for visits to Britain.
This means he will not get the usual high-level security and has to rely on his own private protection while in the UK. The paper also mentioned plans for him to come back alone in May for a service at St. Paul's Cathedral. It is possible that he would not bring Meghan Markle and his kids to the event, given the lack of security. So far, it is unclear if senior royals would support bringing the games back to Britain, especially with King Charles and Princess Kate Middleton’s cancer diagnosis.
Amidst concerns about the health of senior royals, there is one silver lining- the deepening connection between King Charles and his daughter-in-law, Kate Middleton.

According to royal sources, Kate Middleton is drawing strength from the overwhelming support of the public during her cancer treatment, as well as from her father-in-law, King Charles. Those close to the family shared with Vanity Fair that King Charles and Kate Middleton's bond has deepened further since their cancer diagnosis. As reported by the Sun, the Princess of Wales also had a private lunch with King Charles following her heartfelt video message.
Reports suggest that Charles keeps in “regular daily touch” with Kate Middleton and Prince William. Even Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have extended their best wishes to Kate Middleton after years of estrangement. The upcoming Invictus Games could potentially serve as a chance for the Sussexes to reconcile with both the royal family and the British public. However, it might not be the ideal time. If the timing is not favorable, Markle might need to wait until public sentiment signals it is the right time to return, since Prince Harry needs to be present at any cost.
