Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Termed ‘Hypocrites’, Amidst Reports of a World Tour

Published 06/26/2024, 8:38 PM EDT

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry hoped for a different royal life, away from tabloids and the scrutiny that comes with their titles. The couple left the fold mainly to protect their privacy and give their children a normal life. However, the Sussexes seem to have forgotten the very needs they sought to fulfill before stepping down from their royal duties. After four years of living in America and trying their hand at Hollywood, the Californian royals are seemingly not being drawn towards a more private lifestyle.

Moving away from a private lifestyle, in particular, along with some world tour rumors, has led to accusations of hypocrisy against Meghan Markle and Prince Harry.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry took a trip to Nigeria for the Invictus Games Foundation in May. The tour was criticized as it seemed like an unofficial royal tour, something the estranged and ex-senior royal members were ideally not supposed to be doing. Now, just months after the Nigerian tour, Markle and Prince Harry are allegedly looking forward to an Australian tour. Commenting on their “faux royal tour,” royal commentator Louise Roberts told Sky News Australia, “(Prince Harry and Meghan Markle) are obsessed with privacy but a world tour is a direct contradiction.”

Roberts also claimed that this rumored Australian tour will not come to fruition in the near future because of a potential clash with King Charles and Queen Camilla's October tour in the same country as the Sussexes cannot go where King and Queen go. While Roberts spoke up recently, accusing the Sussexes of talking from both sides of their mouths, she is not the only royal observer to do so.

Prominent royal biographer Sally Bedell Smith sat down with Newsweek for an interview last year, where she compared the Sussexes with the Welsh royals. Smith pointed out an irony, saying, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's obsession with privacy leads to a constant violation of their own. This statement referred to the bombshell interviews, docuseries, and the tell-all memoir that the Sussexes unleashed upon the world.

In contrast, Smith appreciated Prince William and Kate Middleton for doing a better job in "preserving a zone of privacy.” The author also believed that it would be unnecessary for Prince William and Middleton to counter the claims made by the Sussexes with another memoir, as the former couple is already dealing with it well. Seeing the sentiment, it is safe to say that the rumored Australian tour would really drag the Sussexes into another round of scrutiny if it actually comes to pass.
