Meghan Markle and Prince Harry dropped a video message on November 7, where they spoke at the first-ever Global Ministerial Conference on Violence Against Children in Colombia. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex talked about keeping children safe online and the pressing need to rethink and redefine how we protect them. “We engage with young people, families, and experts worldwide learning how every aspect of a child's life,” said Markle about how their Archewell Foundation has been tackling the issue.
Prince Harry followed up by discussing the launch of The Parents' Network, a support system for families suffering from their children's online harm. "Through trauma-informed practices, we help parents come together to forge strong bonds,” said the Duke. In the video, the couple sported matching dark blue blazers, accessorized with a poppy pin to mark the upcoming Remembrance Day in the UK. This talk on children’s safety in Colombia came just about three months after the Californian royals' trip to the South American country.
The same Colombian trip that sparked intense backlash over the huge cost it placed on the country, not to mention a few other issues. After the trip, a royal expert dubbed the entire tour the hypocritical.
The Sussexes’ Colombian tour became a subject of controversy
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s visit to Colombia earlier this year cost the South American country around $8,000 per day, totaling $58,000, according to official figures from the vice president. Their intense security arrangements further added $1.95 million to the cost, as per reports. The revelation sparked a massive backlash against the Sussexes over the expensive trip to a nation already grappling with financial crises. Many critics even questioned why the couple still acts like 'royals,' even after stepping away from the fold.

Speaking to Fox News Digital, royal expert Hilary Fordwich said, “This entire tour is the height of Harry's hypocrisy.” She highlighted how the 40-year-old has been pushing for security in the UK, yet chose to visit Colombia, which is ranked far more dangerous. Despite the heavy criticism, it seems the Sussexes are not ready to sever ties with Colombia just yet and will likely continue to address key issues at events in the country, either in person or virtually.
