Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's Fairy-tale Romance Gets Removed from Royal Archives

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle became exposed to public scrutiny the moment rumors of their romance began to circulate. The world found it rather unconventional for the British Duke to fall for an American actress. While on one hand, it invited backlash from traditionalists, on the other, it set an example of love knowing no bounds. In the polarizing attention they received, there had been several instances when the Prince took a stand for the woman he loved dearly, all well-chronicled in the royal family’s archives.

It seems, however, that the family is no longer interested in providing a platform for the fairy tales of the estranged royals’ romance.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s romance was a subject of aggressive speculation for a long while. It was only when the Duke decided to break his silence on the rumors in 2016 and confirm his relationship with the Suits alum, that royal observers took a sigh of relief. However, the 39-year-old was in a way coerced into releasing a public statement in light of the onslaught of harassment on Meghan Markle. Soon that moment became a testament to the love the couple had for each other. However, the powerful 2016 statement no longer exists on the royal family’s website

Prince Harry also discussed this moment in his contentious memoir, Spare. “We needed a statement out there”, he added, “Strong, precise, angry, honest”. The Duke also revealed that his decision to publicly acknowledge his romance with Markle did not receive support from his family. In fact, Prince William, along with his father, was allegedly “furious.” Almost a decade after the incident, the Sussexes’ actions still seem to be angering the Prince of Wales.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle recently took to Nigeria for a three-day trip. This trip was in part to celebrate the 10th Anniversary of Invictus. However, the couple did not return without some criticism. Many fans saw the Nigerian trip as an unofficial royal trip as the Nigerians treated the couple in a very royal-esque way. This allegedly got under the skin of Prince William as well, as per Royal expert Tom Quinn.

Tom Quinn told the Mirror that the Prince of Wales would “find a way to stop this happening in future”. Not just Prince William, even King Charles was reportedly worried about the Sussexes still walking around like royals despite leaving that tag years ago. And with the recent decision to clear out the traces of the Sussexes’ romance from the royal archives, the tension between the two camps seems to be only worsening.
