Paul Feig Sets Things Straight on Blake Lively’s ‘A Simple Favor 2' Cancellation
Blake Lively is in the middle of one of the biggest storms of her decades-long career. The actress is currently navigating a massive legal battle with her It Ends With Us co-star, Justin Baldoni. Since filing her lawsuit, Lively has been keeping a low profile—for pretty understandable reasons. However, her silence has sparked a lot of speculation about her upcoming Hollywood projects that were on the verge of hitting the screens, including the anticipated sequel to her 2018 black comedy, A Simple Favor.
A recent batch of rumors suggested that Lively might have stepped away from the project entirely, which some claimed had resulted in the film being canceled. This prompted the creator, Paul Feig, to step in and clarify the status of A Simple Favor 2.

Fans of A Simple Favor have been eagerly awaiting a sequel for years. Last spring, their patience was finally rewarded when the film started its production. The filming wrapped up in April 2024. But after the lawsuit, many fans speculated that Blake Lively might skip the film’s promotions. There were even claims that her legal drama had forced Amazon to cancel the project entirely. Thankfully, Paul Feig came forward to shut down these rumors on X, calling them "total BS".
Feig reassured fans that “The movie is finished and coming out soon.” He also advised fans not to believe everything they read on social media. Even before the project was finalized, fans had little hope for the sequel to ever materialize because of the alleged feud between its two leads—Lively and Anna Kendrick. Nonetheless, it seems the two have put their differences aside—if there were any—to bring the sequel to life.
The rumors about Lively's film cancellation grew even stronger after she and her husband were noticeably absent from the Golden Globes.
Why did Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively skip the Golden Globes?
Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively were both missing from this year’s Golden Globes, despite their 2024 film Deadpool & Wolverine being nominated. Naturally, many assumed their absence was tied to Lively’s ongoing legal troubles and that the couple was intentionally avoiding public appearances until the dust settled. However, Reynolds did make an appearance at a different awards show, where he paid tribute to Ariana Grande’s blockbuster.

Although the couple has not publicly addressed why they skipped the Golden Globes particularly, a report from Page Six revealed that their decision had been made well before the lawsuit and the surrounding media frenzy. So, it is still uncertain whether Reynolds and Lively are stepping back from the spotlight entirely for the time being. But one thing is certain, A Simple Favor 2 is still on track!
