Over a Year After His Oscar Win for ‘King Richard’, Will Smith Surprises Fans by Taking Up a New Sport

Will Smith has been a legend in the film industry for more than three decades now. But the star will always be known for his role on The Fresh Prince Of Bel-AirMost recently, he has been linked to various projects, but they are all on hold because of the SAG-AFTRA strike. And with all the time on his hands, the actor seems to be trying his hands on different things, including a new sport.

While it may have come via a hilarious surprise video on Instagram, it was not long until the actor’s new hobby was linked to a role he played in an Oscar-winning movie from two years ago.

Will Smith is known for his hilarious social media posts, but this time, the actor has outdone himself. In a post on his Instagram account, the Men in Black star revealed that he was taking his “first tennis lesson.” It surprised fans to find out that the star who portrayed legendary tennis coach, Richard Williams, had not tried his hand at the game before.

The video featured Will Smith, who recently had a special wish for Coco Gauff’s US Open win, in complete tennis garb and a headband that he claimed “you couldn’t play without.” He went on to strike a few poses before realizing he had forgotten his most prized possession, the headband. But while the actor was making his jokes, fans could not help but wonder if his role in 2021’s King Richard had piqued his interest in the game.

Back in 2021, Will Smith dazzled his fans with a performance like never before in the biographical sports drama film directed by Reinaldo Marcus Green, King Richard. The story focused on the life of Richard Williams, who was Serena and Venus Williams’ father. It followed the dreams of a father who wanted his children to become professional tennis stars.

After the film was released, everyone all over the world fell in love with the message it brought to people. While the film may have missed out on an Oscar, Will Smith bagged his very first Oscar for Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role. It may have taken the actor 2 years to get into the sport, but he has one of the best players in the world to help coach him.
