With the Academy Awards preparing for yet another round of recognition and rewards for the best cinematic entries of 2024, all eyes are on Emilia Pérez, starring Selena Gomez, and for good reason. While plenty of formidable candidates are running for the title of the Best International Feature, the race is primarily overpowered this year by stories of women from all over the world, including Jacques Audiard’s musical Emilia Pérez.

According to Deadline, Emilia Pérez looks poised to make the final cut of Oscars race alongside Germany’s The Seed of the Sacred Fig, Belgium’s Julie Keeps Quiet, and I’m Still Here. Additionally, the chances for Emilia Pérez and I’m Still Here to pop out of the international category to earn a nod in the Best Director category are likely. Moreover, Sophia Loren and Marion Cottilard are the only two actress to win Best Actress for a non-English film, but Karla Sofía Gascón, and Fernanda Torres could make it three.
