Actor’s lives are not all cinema, and cinema is definitely all about acting. Reality bears resonance on screens and some actors even go above and beyond to weaponize cinema to stand for justice. It is common knowledge that the world looks upon big names to root for bigger causes and the Oscar nominee Mark Ruffalo has made sure to use his social image to deliver awareness for the sufferers in Gaza.

Earlier, several high-profile entities of the industry signed petitions for a ceasefire in Gaza, and Ruffalo’s repeated advocacy for it across his social just vouches for an actor’s world is both cinema and beyond it.

Mark Ruffalo’s stance on social media is critical but for the right reasons. Hence, to curate a social image for his career is not his goal. Instead, he aims to stand for solidarity and peace and he just did the same by taking to his X (formerly Twitter) handle to laud the activist network of Win Without War and their strategic slogans to call for a ceasefire in Palestine. He uploaded a snap of their truck circling the White House building with his humble urge to “save lives and free the hostages”.

Coming from Ruffalo, this is definitely not a single instance of his zealous plea for cessation. In fact, the actor has been making quite the space on his socials to keep up with his campaign for a truce. Keeping in mind how he has been making use of his acknowledged voice to spread awareness and positivity without shying away from his opinions, there is a great probability that Ruffalo will bring out the brighter side of social life despite his disinclination to it. And perhaps who knows, even his Oscar presence might bear witness to this humanitarian side of him.

Not long ago, Mark Ruffalo sat down for an Oscar preview interview with Deadline before going against his longtime collaborator, Robert Downey Jr. for the tug of war to speak about social media’s “oppressive role” in branding an actor. Pressing on the subject, he emphasized how the drive to curate a prominent social image for the social media age often makes him feel like he is on the “other side” of his career

Ruffalo’s stance on social media’s extreme contributions to an actor’s world beyond cinema makes a point of how baffling the situation is. Yet, Ruffalo making use of that same platform to call attention to serious issues of the world despite his struggle implies just how daring he is as a person and how his point of view is full of clarity. Hence, keeping in mind especially his opposition to social media, this call should serve as a reminder of how actors are not just saviors in cinema but even beyond it.
