The Academy Awards is undeniably one of the most prestigious award ceremonies, where Hollywood’s elite eagerly anticipate the chance to have their names engraved on the iconic trophy. But beyond the stars who take center stage at this high-profile event, there is another key figure who plays a crucial role in making the evening as thrilling as the anticipation leading up to it: the host. While Jimmy Kimmel impressed at this year’s Oscars, having previously served as a seasoned host, the upcoming event has a new self-nominated contender vying for the role—none other than the acclaimed American actor, Jeff Goldblum.
Goldblum recently shed light on his desires in an enlightening conversation before the Oscar buzz for 2025 picks up pace.

Jeff Goldblum recently appeared on Josh Horowitz’s Happy Sad Confused podcast, where the interviewer asked if he had ever considered hosting the Academy Awards. To everyone’s surprise, Goldblum expressed genuine interest in the hosting role as he thoughtfully searched for the right words. He went on to explain that his interest is largely due to the fact that the world of hosting has significantly developed and evolved over time.
Having hosted his own show for some time, Goldblum already had a natural talent for the role. However, during his conversation with Horowitz, he revealed that his interest led him to engage in discussions with writers to better understand the intricacies of hosting. Goldblum also shared that he gained valuable insights from Eron Irwin, Jimmy Kimmel’s key collaborator and a vital figure in the operations of the 2024 Oscars, to learn more about how the ceremonies have been conducted in recent years.
With Goldblum now openly expressing his interest, his insights have proven to be enlightening. Especially since Kimmel is no longer in the running, the Academy may very well consider Goldblum as a potential host.

Jimmy Kimmel will not be returning as the host for the upcoming Oscars, despite having delivered standout moments this year, and he has his reasons. On the Politickin’ podcast, Kimmel shared that his own show, Jimmy Kimmel Live!, tends to suffer when he is heavily focused on hosting the Oscars. As a result, he decided not to take on the role again this year to avoid repeating the challenges he faced last time.
“You wind up pushing everything off ‘til after the Oscars, and you have to do everything you promised to do after the Oscars,” Kimmel remarked, reflecting on the workload that accumulates. He referred to his decision to step back as a “little break,” acknowledging that the day-and-night commitment to hosting the Oscars ultimately takes a toll on his own show. With Kimmel choosing to focus elsewhere, the Academy now has an opportunity to explore new options, provided they choose to look further.
