Oppenheimer was precisely the type of role Robert Downey Jr. needed to show people he was more than just Iron Man. After a decade in Marvel, Downey Jr. was handed a very golden opportunity to portray a memorable character in a historical drama. And boy, did he nail it. There is a certain stroke of genius in casting the guy known for Tony Stark as an atomic power broker. Susan Downey was not just a spectator in Robert Downey Jr.’s journey, she was also instrumental in him landing one of his biggest roles– Sherlock Holmes. Not only did she produce the film, but also its sequel, Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows. Fast forward six years into their marriage, come August 2011, Downey Jr.’s representative told PEOPLE that the couple had a bun in the oven. Little Exton Elias Downey arrived on February 7, 2012, and a friend told the magazine everyone was all smiles and in tip-top shape.

Before the birth, the Zodiac actor unintentionally revealed his son’s gender, although it was not intended. Then, in July 2014, he formally announced on X, formerly Twitter that he and Susan Downey were expecting their second child, daughter Avri Roel Downey. “Yo. Susan. Me. Baby. Girl. November. Scorpio?” he tweeted as an announcement. She was born on November 4, 2014. However, it is also important to mention that the actor has another child, though not with Susan Downey.

Downey Jr. dipped his toes into fatherhood way back in 1993 and had his first son who still prefers to keep out of the limelight.

Robert Downey Jr. got married to his first wife, Deborah Falconer, back in 1992. However, by the mid-90s, his career hit rough waters due to his battle with addiction. The Oscar-nominee and Falconer parted ways in 2004, shortly after he got clean in 2003. Their son Indio Falconer Downey was born on September 7, 1993. Following an eight-year split, the couple officially divorced in 2004.

Although Indio Downey largely grew up away from the glare of fame, he did step into the spotlight on occasions alongside his father. In 2005’s Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, he even played a younger version of Downey Jr.’s character, Harry Lockhart. Together, the father and son graced the red carpets at the Los Angeles premieres of Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, The Shaggy Dog, Zodiac, and the Netflix documentary Sr., which celebrated the life of Indio’s grandfather, Robert Downey Sr.
