After Oscar Outing Heartbreak, Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman to Unite for a Comedy Flick

The world could always use more of Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman. Deadpool & Wolverine was not just a 2-hour-and-7-minute fun escape for fans. Thanks to their electric chemistry and unbeatable sense of humor, the actors made the entire promotional run feel like its own mini blockbuster. It was fun, fresh, and so packed with entertainment that it only made sense for the Academy to consider them as hosts for the 2025 Oscars. After all, how often do you see a Hollywood duo with such charm and wit?

Reynolds and Jackman, however, are teaming up for another project on the big screen, instead of taking on the Oscars stage.

Ryan Reynolds recently revealed during an interview with The Hollywood Reporter that he is currently working on a project titled, Boy Band, which revolves around aging pop stars. “I'm still trying to figure out the smartest way to put that together,” said the 48-year-old. And joining him on this project are none other than his Hollywood BFFs, Hugh Jackman and Shawn Levy. Reynolds is already hard at work on the script's second draft, however, he will not be filming anything for at least a year.

This was also the reason why the Oscar hosting gig of Reynolds and Jackman could not come through. The Green Lantern star told Deadline last month that after their long, intense tour for Deadpool & Wolverine, they need a break. Therefore, although Reynolds would lose to host the Oscars with Jackman “one day,” it will not be this year. The hiatus Reynolds is taking currently has also another purpose.

Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively are putting family first

A source recently told Life & Style Magazine that Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively “need time with their kids” after the “crazy year” they had. While Reynolds had his MCU flick, Lively delivered another blockbuster with It Ends With Us. But aside from their work, the couple also dealt with a lot of controversies this year because of the Blake Lively starrer.

Now, both Reynolds and Lively have cleared their schedules for the year and are “retreating to their country home for the holidays”. The insider also added that they are very “committed” to this plan. Even so, Reynolds would still be working on his Boy Band script. However, he will not be seen cracking jokes with Hugh Jackman on the Oscars stage this year, not as a host, at least.
