After ‘Oppenheimer’ Bagging 7 Oscars, Christopher Nolan Is Already Working on Next Film
The mind of a creative genius never rests and that of who delivered the 2024 Best Picture Oscars winner never settles. Christopher Nolan led Oppenheimer to seven wins at the 96th Academy Awards and now, as per a report by Puck News, he has already started to work on his next movie. While the finer details of the same have not yet come to the fore, the director has hinted, in the past, of his willingness to deliver a ‘lighter’ or less serious movie.
After earning a whopping $72 million from the Cillian Murphy and Robert Downey Jr. starrer centered around the making of the world’s first atomic bomb, speculations hold Nolan going back to flicks such as anything along the lines of his Dark Knight trilogy. Among the many A-list directors who do not shy away from testing their hands with comic book movies, the filmmaker has not only made three acclaimed ones from that genre but has also commended Marvel for keeping cinema going during the pandemic.

In his own words, Christopher Nolan stated being “open to anything” and that his next movie would come across as “not as bleak” as Oppenheimer. Moreover, from a sequel to Tenet to potential talks surrounding him as the next James Bond director, speculation runs rife. Thereafter, talks of a Howard Hughes biopic to an adaptation of 1967’s The Prisoner, the playing field for the visionary remains wide open.
In the meantime, the discussions now all but center around the many firsts and highs he achieved in 2024 with his 2023 flick.

Released on July 21, 2023, Oppenheimer went on to become the highest-earning biopic ever with a worldwide gross of $957 million. Also sitting comfortably as the top-grossing R-rated movie behind only Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker, the movie landed widespread acclaim debuting with a brilliant 96% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Finally, after the box office honors, the flick went on to dominate the 2024 Awards circuit, including leaving behind its twin release, Barbie, in the number of Oscar nods.
Christopher Nolan earned his first-ever BAFTA Award and first-ever Oscar for Best Director and Best Picture with Oppenheimer. Additionally, it also ensured a majority sweep at many other award events, such as the Golden Globes, Critics Choice Awards, and Screen Guild Awards, among others. Ending a decades-long miss of major awards for the director, the film now finally lies as the crown jewel of 2023 with its hallowed spot at the Dolby Theatre’s Wall of Fame.
