The world might always remember Robert Downey Jr. as Marvel’s Iron Man. However, after a career spanning four decades, the actor was recognized by the Academy Awards for his role in Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer. Despite it possibly being a lifelong dream come true, the 58-year-old seemed to be more focused on the future of his career instead of the award.
In an interview at the exclusive after party of the 96th annual Oscar Awards after his win, Downey ended up sharing some insight into what his fans could expect from him in the career department.

At the 2024 Oscars, Robert Downey Jr. spoke to PEOPLE in an exclusive interview at the Governor’s Ball. Although it had gone down after the actor’s Best Supporting Actor win, he seemed to have no plans to relax. Instead, the actor teased fans by claiming that he had “a couple other tricks” up his sleeve. With him working on HBO’s miniseries, The Sympathizer, the star seemed to be telling the truth.
The actor even hyped up the HBO series by saying that he was “already proud” of what he had seen so far. Apart from teaming up for the upcoming miniseries, Downey and his wife, Susan, confirmed that they were “just getting started.” With his wife producing the upcoming comedy-drama series, and their Emmy-winning, Sweet Tooth series coming to an end, the couple teased that they were ready to dive into yet another project together.
While the Marvel star and his wife are ready for their next journey, the world has still not gotten over the 58-year-old’s acceptance speech at the Oscars.

At the 96th annual Oscars, Oppenheimer made a clean sweep. However, Robert Downey Jr. snatched up his main character moment when he bagged Best Supporting Actor. From the second he made his way to the stage, the star ensured that he left the entire room cracking up and inspired with his vote of thanks. From the audience to social media, everyone appeared to echo the happiness of the actor’s first-ever Oscar win.

Apart from thanking his Oppenheimer cast and crew, Downey also thanked his wife. He added, “I’d like to thank my veterinarian — I meant wife — Susan Downey over there.” The actor cleared up the doubts by saying that she had found him as “a snarling rescue pet and loved me back to life.” His speech ended up being a short but sweet moment that his fans will indeed never forget.
