Oscar Winner Cillian Murphy Moves From Physicist to Lawyer in a New Thrilling Crime Story
Oppenheimer saw Cillian Murphy at the top of his game, with a performance that will be remembered for ages. Although on the surface, he did not make the flashiest choices, it was the sheer intensity in his performance, in his eyes, that grabbed everyone's attention while also making it seem like what he was doing was nothing special. With an Oscar now under his belt for the Christopher Nolan-led movie, Murphy is already lined up for his next big-ticket project.
In his upcoming role, Cillian Murphy is set to pivot from his praised portrayal of theorist J. Robert Oppenheimer to the role of a lawyer.

The same studio behind the big Oscar dominator of 2024, Universal Pictures, made a move to acquire the rights to Mark A. Bradley's book Blood Runs Coal: The Yablonski Murders and the Battle for the United Mine Workers of America. According to Deadline, Cillian Murphy is getting ready to lead this epic film, titled Blood Runs Coal. It is set in the late 1960s in the Pennsylvania coal mines and unravels one of the most notorious crimes in labor history.
In the upcoming movie, Murphy will take on the role of Chip Yablonski, the son of a shady union leader who takes out a competitor. But Murphy is not just acting in it but also calling the shots as a producer. Plus, Jez Butterworth and John-Henry Butterworth are on board to pen the script for the next big hit. On top of this crime drama, the 47-year-old is also in talks to revive his unforgettable character as a notorious gangster.

When Peaky Blinders concluded, it was announced that the legacy of the drama would end with a movie. Since then, talks about whether or not Cillian Murphy will be in the movie have been ongoing and even now, he is still into it if the script is good. Giving an update on the movie just recently, Knight spilled the beans at the premiere of his new BBC drama The Town, confirming Murphy's return in the highly anticipated gangsta movie.
“We’re shooting it in September just down the road in Digbeth,” said the filmmaker. While Shelby was once arguably Murphy’s most iconic role, he has just had a major career highlight with Christopher Nolan’s historical epic. Now, with Blood Runs Coal, Murphy will once again show why he is the king of this dark, intense genre.
