Once Joker, Jared Leto Now Lands One of the Most Iconic Villains of All Time in a Fantasy Project

Hollywood has a knack for typecasting its actors, and Jared Leto is no exception. Despite his remarkable efforts to diversify his roles, he is often found himself playing the villain. From his iconic portrayal of the Joker in the Suicide Squad to his upcoming role as the archenemy of He-man as the most feared iconic supervillain in the live-action Masters of the Universe, Leto has mastered the art of playing complex, conflicted characters. 

For years on end now, the star has demonstrated a knack for blowing life into characters that operate in the gray areas of morality. And his latest headlines are no exception.

According to Deadline, Amazon MGM Studios and Mattel's live-action Masters of the Universe film has rounded out its rogues gallery with four new villainous additions. Oscar-winning actor, Jared Leto has been confirmed to play Skeletor, the iconic franchise's primary antagonist and arch-nemesis of He-Man portrayed by Nicholas Galitzine.

Sources close to the production have revealed that Leto's Skeletor will be joined by a trio of nefarious henchmen, Trap Jaw, Goat Man, and Tri-Klops. Trap Jaw, a recurring villain in the franchise, boasts cybernetic enhancements and a versatile arsenal. Goat Man, a lesser-known but no less formidable foe, sports a goat-like appearance. Rounding out the trio is Tri-Klops, a tech-savvy swordsman with a talent for surveillance and espionage.

The live-action Masters of the Universe film has secured a release date of June 5, 2026. Directed by Travis Knight, the movie is based on the iconic Mattel franchise. The plot remains under wraps, but the film is expected to bring the beloved characters to life in a new and exciting way with Idris Elba too in talks to join the cast.

The project has undergone significant development, with previous iterations in the works at Sony and Netflix. Escape Artists and Mattel Films are now producing the film, which will receive a worldwide theatrical release. With a script by Chris Butler and contributions from David Callaham and Aaron and Adam Nee, anticipation is sky-high and continues to build for this highly promising comic book adaptation.
