“I know what kind of God I need to be. For you. For all of us.” To say the least, Loki understood the assignment! Tom Hiddleston’s Loki graced the MCU with its presence back in 2011. A God straight out of Norse mythology stood true to his mischief in the movies. His desire to ‘rule’ or to have a ‘throne’ was something that made him lose almost everything he had. While the throne, which once took everything away from him, will become a way for him to fulfill his Glorious Purpose, was not something fanatics expected until Season 2 of Loki concluded.

(Major Spoilers Ahead)

While Thor movies always stood true to the elements of the Norse characters, there was one key element long lost which now has tied the fate of the multiverse together, just like of the 9 realms.

Intertwined fate of Multiverse and Nine Realms in Loki

In Norse mythology, it is said that there exist nine realms; all of which are connected to each other via the Yggdrasil. A source of life and death, it ensures that the nine realms co-exist in peace. For MCU fans, this might ring a bell! The sacred tree has been referenced in Thor first and recently it was what was seen in Loki when the God of Mischief, now Stories, tied the Multiverse together.

While in Norse mythology, Yggdrasil was Odin’s way of gaining mystical knowledge and a way to revive life after Ragnarok, in the MCU, it tied the entire multiverse together: it was a source of life, death, and re-birth just like the mythos! Just like Yggdrasil sees the best and worst of all worlds, the sacred tree is now doing the same for Loki (remember his smile when Mobius decided to stay?).

Loki makes you ponder not one but many things

Season 2 of Loki was a benchmark for many things. It introduced us to time slipping. We saw the God of Mischief’s loneliness again, putting him on the path of controlling his slip and ultimately saving the universe. However, the new rules make everything known null and void. If one knows how to time slip as and when they want, can they change the entire course of events just like Loki did? If the Sacred Timeline does not exist, what does Kang have to fight for? Can Loki now guide the actions of those he cares for as he is now in the multiverse?

While the first season saw Loki love and accept himself with all his flaws, this season was all about him thinking of the larger good. With the upcoming phase 5, the answers might just be out. However, will Loki just keep on holding the branches with his bare hands at the End of Time or will he actually start playing a larger role like Kang? That is something everyone will have to wait for!
