Not Will Smith but Martin Lawrence Impressed the Directors the Most During ‘Bad Boys 4’ Shooting
Led by the hilarious duo of Will Smith and Martin Lawrence, the Bad Boys franchise became one of the most loved action comedies of the 90s. What began with the 1995 flick, Bad Boys has now turned into an epic three-movies-long saga. With Bad Boys II, which came out in 2003, the action got even more explosive. Through Bad Boys for Life, the appeal of Smith and Lawrence’s characters only grew.
Now, three years after the previous installment in the franchise, the duo is set to impress audiences with Bad Boys 4. One of them seems to have impressed the film’s directors too.

In a podcast by The Playlist, the hosts were joined by Adil El Arbi & Bilall Fallah who served as co-directors on the fourth movie in the Bad Boys franchise. During the conversation, they revealed the behind-the-scenes happenings at the movie’s set. Especially the portrayal of Marcus Burnett at the hands of Martin Lawrence. In their opinion, the 58-year-old took his acting to an even “higher level” than before.
Although the film’s cast also includes an Emmy-nominated actress, the Blue Streak actor seems to have outshined them all in the directors’ eyes. According to them, Bad Boys 4 will result in the “culmination” of Lawrence’s character’s arc. For fans, this factor has made the anticipation for the movie soar even higher.
Besides lauding Lawrence for his skills, El Arbi & Fallah also disclosed how they decided to shift the franchise’s focus through Bad Boys 4.

As quirky Miami detectives who often bend rules to catch criminals, Smith and Lawrence infused humor into the two detectives’ adventures. Now the directors have claimed that the latest addition to the series is going to have “way more comedy.” Apparently, the purpose of Bad Boys 4 will be “to get people laughing” through wittier banter. It will also feature more “dramatic” scenes to achieve the same.
Besides getting more laughs out of this one, Will Smith is also walking away with way more money than he did with the previous three installments. Hopefully, the bigger paycheck will reflect in his performance as well. Those awaiting the flick will be able to catch Lawrence’s exceptional performance and Smith’s return to the franchise on June 14 next year unless SAG-AFTRA causes a delay.
