Prince William took over as the president of the British Academy of Film and Television Arts in 2010. Ever since, the working royal has made it a point to attend the ceremony, and greet, and address the winners and nominees of the coveted award. A while after he took his seat, the Ted Lasso actor took to the stage, arriving on roller skates to play out his comedic bit. Narrating that in case of a fire hazard, the attendees were to evacuate in “height order”, he mentioned all but forgot the royals.
The 43-year-old started off the list with himself followed by winners, and nominees, and remarking “influencers” at the very end before realizing a fumble and adding “the royals, of course” while gesturing with folded hands to Prince William. The bit drew out a laugh from the Duke as well as the audience. Despite his fumble, in reality, in case of any hazard, the working royal shall have the utmost priority, regardless.
The Duke’s appearance at the ceremony also marked a first for him in his decades-long presidency.
Prince William arrives at BAFTA without Kate Middleton
For the first time since he assumed the presidency of BAFTA and his marriage, Prince William marked an appearance at the ceremony without the company of Kate Middleton. Nevertheless, the Duke of Cornwall fulfilled his duties as the chair of the Academy.
