Since its announcement in February 2021, the impending black comedy fantasy film has sparked a lot of interest. To add to the excitement, a new trailer for Emma Stone’s Poor Things has been released. The film, directed by Yorgos Lanthimos, will reach US theaters on December 8 and UK theaters on January 12. To say this book-turned-movie will show Stone in a different light would be an understatement given her character in the film.

Stone will play Bella Baxter in the film, a lady brought back to life by a bizarre experiment performed by an unconventional scientist played by William Dafoe. The plot continues to explore Bella’s fanciful development as she embarks on a whirlwind voyage with a slick lawyer named Wedderburn, played by Mark Ruffalo, with the goal of standing up for equality and freedom.

From Netflix honoring her raucous high school film Superbad to the entire ensemble of Poor Things receiving a 10-minute standing ovation at the Venice Film Festival, the actress has it all. But the possible acclaim is not why she picked the role. She wanted to take on that part because it taught her “what it is to be a woman” and what it feels like to “be free, to be scared, and to be brave.”

Notably, Lanthimos and Stone have worked together in the Oscar-winning movie The Favourite in 2019. So, it would be interesting to witness what their Gothic science fiction comedy movie will give us. However, based on the duo’s previous work, it appears that another masterpiece is on the way.
