Back in the cherished era of the ’90s, the iconic sitcom Friends warmed fans’ hearts with stirring tales of friendship. If the cozy Central Perk couch could talk, it would tell endless tales of the quirky gang and their escapades across Manhattan. And behind the beloved faces of the characters were equally lovable actors. As the characters’ dramatic love stories played out, they were forever etched in fans’ memories.

From Rachel’s entanglements and Joey’s goofy adventures, there was plenty of drama. And the face behind Chandler, Matthew Perry, once revealed some behind-the-scenes drama that was unfolding simultaneously.

Matthew Perry did not have it as easy as Chandler

The reigning king of sarcasm, Chandler’s effortless charm, was the Yin to Monica’s uptight Yang. But unlike Perry’s on-screen romance, his off-screen crushes seemed far more attainable to the actor. In The Jess Cagle Podcast in November 2022, he revealed that he knew about the romantic tensions between David Schwimmer and Jennifer Aniston. Which was tough considering that he fancied her himself, making him feel like he will “never be able to be with her.”

Earlier, in an interview, Perry had also divulged an embarrassing moment when Aniston outright rejected him. It is tough to blame him for trying because to put it in his own words, “How can you not have a crush on Jennifer Aniston?” Eventually, his emotions faded as she did not reciprocate his feelings and he decided to tell himself that it was “enough.”

But the feelings resurfaced after a while. Except, this time they were for a different Friends actress!

Later in the podcast, the 53-year-old went on to confess that he eventually developed a little crush on Lisa Kudrow as well. And that is not all. There was also a time that he fell for his on-screen romantic partner, Courteney Cox. Almost makes us wonder if his heart ever fluttered for Maggie Wheeler, who played Janice! The actor was facing battles on many fronts besides the romantic one, considering he was also fighting with addiction at the time.

It is safe to say that most fans of the show were shipping some of these pairs. Regardless of his failure, Perry would be amused to find out that his fans were always rooting for him.
