King Charles’s coronation held on May 6, 2023, was a historic event, steeped in tradition and grandeur. Prince Charles, the eldest son of Queen Elizabeth II, ascended the throne following her reign. The ceremony featured a dazzling display of pageantry, including the procession through the streets of London, the anointing with holy oil, and the crowning with the famous St. Edward’s Crown. The affair was grand and was attended by celebrities, royals, and diplomats globally. 

The ceremony was attended by royal family members, from Princess Catherine to Prince William and even Prince Harry. The Duke of Sussex attended the ceremony without his wife Meghan Markle, who stayed back in their US home. However, the Prince was not seen at the Buckingham Palace balcony after the ceremony ended. Prince Harry left immediately to board his flight

Prince Harry was seen leaving the venue almost immediately in his car towards Heathrow Airport as reported by BBC News. This was to be with son Archie, whose fourth birthday was on the same day as the coronation ceremony. The Duke was sitting two rows behind his brother, Prince William, and had no official role in the ceremony that took place.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle stepped down from their official duties back in March 2020. Ever since then, they have been vocal about their struggles within the royal family. They accused members of the family of racism and tabloid coverage against them in the interview with Oprah Winfrey. They also opened up about their side of the story in the Netflix docuseries, Harry & Meghan. The flames fumed further with the subsequent release of the Duke of Sussex’s memoir Spare. The recent controversies around his memoir were the reason he was not invited to join his fellow royals at the Buckingham Palace balcony as per BBC’s understanding.

Shocking Revelations in ‘Spare’

Prince Harry made some hard-to-digest revelations in his memoir, ‘Spare’. He talked about how Prince William once assaulted him over an argument about Markle. The Prince was not shying in revealing how the new Queen, Camilia, was ‘dangerous’ because of her connections with the tabloids. He accused her of leaking conversations to the media to protect her reputation. 

Prince also accused the royal family of not updating him about Queen Elizabeth’s death and it was the BBC that came to his rescue. “I looked at the BBC website. My grandmother had died. My father was King,” he described in his memoir. Post the memoir’s release, the couple faced a lot of criticism from their fans.
