When Will Smith was at the peak of his acting career, the actor decided to take up the lead told in an apocalyptic thriller directed by Francis Lawrence. I Am Legend soon became one of Smith’s most well-known movies. When it first came out in 2007, the sci-fi horror quickly become extremely successful. It even went on to make Box Office history by opening to $77 million.

But with the movie’s unfortunate ending, many fans were confused about the latest update on the Am Legend franchise.

Will Smith is set to reprise his role in I Am Legend 2

According to Screen Rant, it was recently confirmed that I Am Legend 2 was in development. It was also revealed that the prequel star, Will Smith, would be reprising his role as Dr. Robert Neville in the franchise. Along with the addition of new co-star Michael B. Jordan.

But with news of a sequel, fans are a little confused as to how the storyline would continue. Considering that in the ending of the 2007 film, Will Smith’s character Neville sacrifices himself for the greater good of humanity. Even though the movie was adapted from the 1954 novel I Am Legend by Richard Matheson, the storyline was changed to fit the ideas of the filmmaker.

But even with all the success, Will Smith was extremely vocal about the fact that the movie may have done even better if it had a different ending.

How is the actor coming back as Dr. Robert Neville?

After news of the sequel, fans have been in disarray, trying to figure out how Will Smith, who recently revealed that a certain movie changed his acting style, would be making his comeback to I Am Legend with his character having been killed at the end of the movie. But thankfully, the director already has that covered.

The sequel will be following an alternate ending from the novel to continue the franchise. This means that instead of Neville being killed by darkseekers, the storyline will pick up from the novel ending. The alternate ending sees Neville finding out that the infected people have still managed to hold on to a few of their human characteristics.

The only way that the film could potentially become a success is by following the plot from the novel as it already makes an extremely catching story.
