Naomi Campbell vs Anna Wintour: What Is the Beef All About? Here’s Everything You Need to Know
Anna Wintour and Naomi Campbell are two of the most famous names in the fashion world. While Wintour is renowned as Vogue’s global director and an influential media executive, Campbell is still considered an inspiration for Black women who aspire to make it big in the fashion industry. They have both shared a mutual admiration in the past, and Campbell even attributes her career boost to Wintour’s influence. But it seems their relationship has taken quite a turn since those days.
Naomi Campbell and Anna Wintour recently found themselves in an awkward spot at a high-profile award show, a moment that spoke volumes about the current state of their relationship.

Naomi Campbell was honored with the Fashion Icon Award at Harlem's Fashion Row's Fashion Show and Style Awards, where she was first introduced by Anna Wintour. However, since Campbell was late, Wintour reportedly had to leave, letting Samira Nasr, Harper's Bazaar editor-in-chief, take charge. While Wintour had showered Campbell with praise during her introduction, the mastermind behind the Met Gala extravaganza could not resist a jibe about Campbell’s notorious lack of punctuality. And the actress was not about to let that slide.
During her acceptance speech, Campbell fired back at Wintour with a sharp retort, referring to her as "the other lady" while expressing her thanks for the honor in Harlem. "It wasn't my choice to have the other lady. I'd much rather have this," the 54-year-old said, nodding towards fellow honoree Samira Nasr. However, things were not always this frosty between Campbell and Wintour.
Campbell once praised Wintour for giving her the best opportunity of her supermodel career.

As one of the rare Black supermodels of her era, Naomi Campbell has always advocated against racism and pushed for greater diversity in fashion. She made history when she was featured on the cover of Vogue’s September issue in 1989. Campbell admitted she was initially unaware of the challenges Anna Wintour faced to make her the first Black woman on that cover, during a CNN Style interview.
"Anna gave me such a great opportunity and I had no idea how much she had to fight for that," said Campbell during the interview. The supermodel only realized it after she watched the documentary, The September Issue, which chronicled Wintour and her team as they worked on the September 2007 issue. However, seeing Campbell's recent veiled criticism of Wintour at the Harlem's Fashion Row Awards, it is uncertain whether she still views the fashion mogul with the same admiration.
