The royal turntables have turned a lot this year as the UK royalty finds itself more on the media than ever before. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have more or less turned themselves into Hollywood content creators, much to the chagrin of Buckingham. The estranged royal couple, in their quest to achieve ‘financial independence’, has strayed far beyond the working boundaries of a British royal. Now, as they try to cement their PR into a forever positive, it seems like success is coming knocking at their doors.

Driving the royal couple en route to success is Netflix. However, it was soon to be joined by another major driving force, which now has cast itself away.

Ever since the royal couple landed on the US coasts, the spotlight and lust for content by big-ticket companies have often chased them. Among the front-runners back in 2020 was Spotify, who signed a multi-year $20 million deal. Yet, in June 2023, it all fell out owing to poor reception of the top-billed podcast. Months later, the Duchess of Sussex was teetering close to another mega-deal, this time with Amazon-owned Audible. However, as reported by the New York Post, an Audible spokesperson has denied any such claims.

The spokesperson confirmed that there was “no truth to the report “. If it had been true, then the Duchess would have joined the ranks of Barack and Michelle Obama as A-list content makers in the company. Moreover, it would have also landed another win for the couple who also sails high on Netflix thanks to renewed PR after the Invictus Games.

Netflix has taken up a relentless fixation with the British monarchy with The Crown and the Sussexes. The streaming giant is still true on its $100 million deal with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle for a string of docuseries. While the most recent one, Heart of Invictus, landed mostly positive reviews, there is no news about upcoming ones.

Taking a dig at the massive payout and relatively low content, the satirical Family Guy savagely mocked the same. It came not long after South Park had followed suit by calling the shots at the couple’s memoir revelations. Looking to enhance their visibility in popular culture, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle may also appear on The Kardashians. Although the same is yet to be confirmed.
