It takes the reader on a journey of self-discovery with the author. During her journey, the author of the book remembered her conversation with Matthew Perry.

Matthew Perry got global fame from the ’90s sitcom, Friends. However, he also had a journey of his own which he talked about in his memoir, Friends, Lovers and the Big Terrible Thing. Just like the Canadian actor, Margolyes realized some of her mistakes and penned them down in her book.

When any actor appears on a television talk show, they would want to be careful about their words and actions. Although Margolyes did not abuse Perry, she certainly did not feel good about the conversation she had with him when they appeared on The Graham Norton Show together. Margolyes asked Perry, “Were you an alcoholic at one time?” when he was talking about his play, The End of Longing. In her book, she recounted and expressed regret, she revealed she should not have asked that question.

In 2016, the 17 Again star, Miriam Margolyes, along with other celebrities, appeared on The Graham Norton Show where Perry talked about his play. It was the very first time he wrote something entirely by himself, as he revealed. While talking about the character, Graham Norton asked him if the character of his play was based on himself. “It’s a slightly exaggerated form of myself,” admitted the actor before getting interrupted by Margolyes.

In his memoir, the Fools Rush In actor has opened up about how he struggled with alcoholism and drug abuse. However, he also mentioned he tried to quit a lot of times before almost facing death. One of those times was around the time when he appeared on the television talk show. He admittedly reported he was a recovering alcoholic.

Moreover, it also affected his work, as he admitted in his book. Because of his addiction, his physical appearance kept changing.

Matthew Perry had an amazing life until he faced a life-threatening challenge. Although there were people to help him get through rehab and overcome his addiction, it certainly took a lot of power and time for him to finally be able to do so.
