Many actors would jump at the chance to work with Christopher Nolan — and for good reason. And who would not want to collaborate with an auteur who consistently delivers ever-grander cinematic spectacles? Well, there are quite a few actors who have passed up exciting roles in his blockbuster films.

The latest to join this exclusive club is Mia Goth. As per reports, she recently turned down a role in Nolan’s upcoming star-studded project.

Christopher Nolan is currently busy working on his adaptation of Homer’s epic, The Odyssey. And just in the past week, the already impressive cast has gotten even more stacked. An actor rumored to have been joining the ensemble was Pearl star Mia Goth. However, according to a new report from the X page Christopher Nolan Art & Updates, Goth has turned down the role. It looks like she is now officially part of the short yet powerful club of stars who have turned down Nolan’s offers.

Over the years, plenty of well-known — and some not-so-well-known — actors have passed on roles in Nolan’s films. From Will Smith rejecting Inception, to Brad Pitt giving Memento a pass, and even the late Irrfan Khan stepping away from Interstellar, the list of stars saying no to Nolan is as surprising as it is diverse. But on the flip side, many A-listers have worked for years, patiently waiting for their turn to star in one of his films — including Oscar winner Cillian Murphy.

Murphy himself once admitted that after playing supporting roles in five of Nolan’s films, he was desperate to land a lead role in one.

Christopher Nolan and Cillian Murphy have been working together for almost 20 years now. The filmmaker has directed Murphy in six films. However, the latest atomic bomb drama marked Murphy’s first time taking the lead in a Nolan film. In a 2023 interview with the Associated Press, Murphy admitted that he "was desperate" to lead a Nolan movie after playing supporting roles in his movie for years. A similar story played out with another frequent collaborator of Nolan’s, Matt Damon.

Damon had mentioned to his wife during couples' therapy that he was planning to take a break from acting but would never turn down a role in a Christopher Nolan film. Now, it looks like Damon is finally set to headline a Nolan movie with The Odyssey. Though nothing is confirmed yet, fans are already saying that Damon could have a Cillian Murphy arc. With casting rumors now running wild, it is to be seen who else will be joining what is shaping up to be another blockbuster hit.
