Met Gala 2024: Amidst BTS Absence, Here Are All the K-Pop Icons Who Can Grace the Carpet
K-pop is more than just a music genre. It is a cultural force and an audacious blend of fashion and luxury that commands attention. While the genre has been mainstream since the early 2000s, it was not until the last decade that it truly became a global phenomenon. Especially the rise of K-pop fashion, which has wielded influence in a way music has not seen since the genesis of American hip-hop. The credit undoubtedly lies with K-pop stars' fashion sensibilities, who are now the darlings of all major fashion events. With the 2024 Met Gala mere hours away, style mavens everywhere are curious to see the sartorial flair the K-pop icons will bring to the party.
While it is pretty clear that the Met Galas will not be the greatest night for the BTS army, there is still hope for other K-pop icons to grace the event.
Stray Kids' Seungmin

During a recent Instagram live, Stray Kids' Seungmin sent fans into a frenzy with a tantalizing hint. He suggested that the K-pop crew might make their debut at the Met Gala 2024. He mentioned preparations like "fittings," which was enough to put fans on the edge of their seats. “Ahh met gala show, yea we are getting ready for it”, said Seungmin. On top of that, Stray Kids were photographed leaving Korea decked out in Tommy Hilfiger, and Korean media suggested they were headed to a brand event in New York.
Back in 2022, there were rumors suggesting that Stray Kids' Hyunjin had prepared for the Met Gala but he did not make it to the event. If Seungmin does end up attending the Met Gala, he is sure to attract a significant influx of new fans.
All this, however, hinges on whether this tease turns out to be genuine.
BLACKPINK
Jennie Kim from BLACKPINK wowed everyone with her Met Gala debut last year. Being one of Karl Lagerfeld's final handpicked muses for Chanel, she elegantly reimagined look 164 from Lagerfeld's fall 1990 ready-to-wear collection. And now, BLINKs are buzzing with speculation after sightings of Jennie in New York for some work commitment surfaced. Additionally, it has also been confirmed that Jennie is heading to New York ahead of the much-anticipated Met Gala.
Some fans, though, are not entirely convinced by the speculation. Many have pointed out that the artist is not staying at the Met's hotel which is making her chances of attending the event slim as well. Meanwhile, there is talk about Jisoo, Rosé, and Lisa possibly attending, as they have also received invitations. However, no official word has been released by their representatives yet. Nevertheless, K-pop fans are eagerly anticipating the possibility of the BLACKPINK members turning heads at the event.
SEVENTEEN's Mingyu
Blessed with the stature of a fashion model and the features of a matinee idol, SEVENTEEN's Mingyu would undoubtedly be a stunner if he made an appearance at the Met Gala. He effortlessly carries off any attire, making luxury fashion houses eager to dress him. Additionally, having walked numerous runways for Korean fashion designers, he is one of the busiest idols at every Seoul Fashion Week
Hence, he should not have any issues going head-to-head with other luminaries in the fashion industry at the 2024 Met Gala. Nevertheless, Mingyu is also known for being a bit awkward in social settings, so having the group's resident and English speaker, Vernon, as his companion would be a fantastic idea.
Red Velvet’s Seulgi

While there is a case to be made for seeing Red Velvet's original visual, Irene, at the fashion's biggest event. However, there is a demand from fans to see Seulgi in attendance. With her distinct features that exude high fashion and her commanding aura, Red Velvet's main dancer would surely make waves in New York.
What adds weight to the likelihood of her attendance is that Seulgi has been a part of leading fashion brands, including Italian luxury brand Salvatore Ferragamo. And hence, there is a chance that the brand may want to push its muse to attend the event this time.
