Meghan Markle Was ‘Not Ready’ to Take on the Responsibilities of a Working Royal Member, Claims Royal Historian
Ever since stepping into the royal family, Meghan Markle has experienced a series of ups and downs. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex exchanged vows in May 2018. Despite rumored disagreements between the brothers concerning the pace of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s relationship, the couple, along with Prince William and Princess Kate, initiated a charity together. This gave some fans the impression that Markle had successfully integrated into her role as a working member. However, not everyone shares this perspective.
Four years after the controversial Megxit, a royal historian argued that Meghan Markle was never adequately prepared to assume the responsibilities of a working royal member.

Royal historian Hugo Vickers has asserted that Meghan Markle had no inclination to fulfill her responsibilities as a working royal and showed no intention of carrying her fair share. Vickers also expressed doubt that Markle could have assumed additional duties if she had remained a working royal. He questioned her level of preparedness for the role and whether she had any genuine interest in taking up such responsibilities.
“I don’t think she was very well prepared for the role”, said Vickers. Esther Krakue also pointed out that Prince Harry had, in a way, “shoehorned” Meghan Markle into the Royal Family institution. She suggested that without his influence, the Duchess might never have entered into such a situation. Surprisingly, Vickers and Krakue were not the only ones who felt this way about the Duchess.
The designer of Meghan Markle’s wedding dress shared a similar sentiment and also shed light on the reasons behind her perceived lack of readiness for the role.

Chloe Savage is a professional embroiderer- the artist behind the creation of Meghan Markle’s iconic wedding dress. The designer offered a behind-the-scenes perspective on the royal wedding. Savage told Insider in 2021 that the former actress was not ready for the pressures of royal life. She explained how the royal family has historically placed immense pressure on individuals, and in Kate Middleton’s case, she had ample time to adapt and acclimate.
Markle, however, dove into the royal setting headfirst, making it challenging for her to adjust. Savage added that Meghan Markle had the potential to carve out an exceptional role for herself. The former actress, accustomed to doing things on her own terms, struggled with the limited space available to prepare for the constraints on her actions, words, and wardrobe.
