Meghan Markle’s Upcoming Nigeria Trip With Prince Harry Is a “game plan for royal redemption,” Claims Expert
After facing a series of challenges in 2023, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle declared through a source that 2024 would be their "year of redemption". And they were not lying. Right from the get-go this year, the Sussexes have been on a roll, introducing multiple Netflix projects, debuting their website, and even launching a fresh brand for the Duchess. Although it appeared that their efforts to revive their careers would serve as the climax of their redemption narrative, a royal expert has suggested the possibility of a "royal redemption" as well.
As the expert sees it, Meghan Markle's upcoming trip to Nigeria with Prince Harry for the Invictus Games is the last piece of the puzzle in her “game plan”.

Although Meghan Markle was not part of Prince Harry's visit to the UK for the Invictus event, she will join the Duke on his journey to Nigeria, where they will engage with military personnel and immerse themselves in the local culture. Speaking to The Mirror, royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams hinted that this upcoming visit might be more than just an excursion, especially after King Charles' alleged snub of Prince Harry during his UK visit. “Their visit to Nigeria is a cover for what is a setback”, said Fitzwilliams.
Mr. Fitzwilliams suggested that the Sussexes can only redeem themselves if they speak favorably about the Commonwealth in a speech. In their Netflix documentary, the Californian royals disparaged this institution, which is Queen Elizabeth's foremost legacy. This criticism was poorly received, especially considering that they held Commonwealth patronages during their tenure as senior working royals. Despite the expert's belief that the Nigerian trip could be a strategic move, Invictus veterans are hesitant about Meghan Markle's involvement in their association any further.

Invictus veterans are starting to think that the event has shifted its focus more towards PR and less towards "its original meaning". According to royal author Tom Quinn's interview with The Mirror, Prince Harry has "broken all the unwritten rules" of his army days. He also claimed that this, coupled with Meghan Markle's involvement, might be creating a sense of estrangement among Invictus participants.
Throughout the years, Meghan Markle has accompanied her husband to numerous Invictus Games, causing some to perceive the event as "too royal". However, PR expert Ryan McCormick believes that Prince Harry will not be fazed by the criticism from his Invictus family. While Meghan Markle seems undeterred by the backlash from Invictus members regarding the Nigerian trip too, only time will reveal whether it is her personal connection to the country or part of a strategic "game plan" as suggested by Richard Fitzwilliams.
