Meghan Markle Starrer ‘Suits’ Moves From Paid Streaming to Free Broadcasting as the Hype Grows

Anyone who got caught up in the Suits craze long after its finale knows Meghan Markle was Rachel Zane before she became the Duchess of Sussex. She announced her departure from the legal drama, where she played a paralegal for seven years, following her engagement to Prince Harry in 2017. While her departure from the show is often associated with her marriage into the royal family, no one can deny the iconic impact Rachel Zane had on the Aaron Korsh show.

As Suits got a second wind in popularity last year following its re-release on Netflix, efforts are now underway to make the series more accessible to a wider audience.

Suits was previously accessible exclusively to subscribers of Netflix and Peacock Premium. However, on Monday, Frank Cicha, the Executive Vice President of Programming for Fox Television Stations, announced that the primetime programming service MyNetwork TV has acquired the rights to air Suits for its broadcast TV premiere this fall. This means that all nine seasons of the series, comprising a total of 134 episodes, will be accessible through the service with an estimated coverage of 97 percent of television households across the United States, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter.

We’re discussing some fun ways to do just that”, teased Cicha in her statement. Following its release on Netflix in June 2023, the series drew in a large audience, consistently breaking the single-week record for viewing time, as reported by Nielsen’s streaming ratings. This surge in popularity spurred fans to rally for a reboot of the show, with the original cast, including Meghan Markle. Although the reboot proposal did catch the eye of creator Aaron Korsh, a Suits star disclosed whether Markle would reprise her role in the series.

Actress Rachael Harris, known for her role as Sheila Sazs in Suits, shared a bit about her talk with the show's creator and hinted at who might be in the mix for Suits: L.A.

When news about Suits: LA came out, Rachael Harris wasted no time reaching out to Aaron Korsh to see if she was in it, according to The Mirror. However, the showrunner apparently wanted the new version to carve its own path, without leaning on past stars from the original series, which is currently a Netflix sensation. “He was very clear with me that no one from the previous cast is going to be in Suits: LA”, stated the actress.

Suits: LA will be a fresh legal drama in a new setting. In late November 2023, Beatrice Springborn, president of Universal International Studios, shared that the show will maintain "the same energy and good-looking people that the original did". Given Harris' remarks and Meghan Markle's focus on entrepreneurship and philanthropy, alongside her absence from Suits reunion events, it is very unlikely she will be returning to the show. Nevertheless, fans can look forward to seeing Rachel Zane's character closer to home with the series airing for free soon.
