Last Thursday, Moms First and the Geena Davis Institute on Gender in Media shared some findings from their new study. The report showed that the representation of mothers on television is highly out of touch with reality. During her latest press conference at the SXSW Festival, the Duchess outlined “three key reasons” for her participation in this initiative. First was her drive to get insights into women’s lives and “shared experiences“. Secondly, she wanted to point out the inaccuracies in how women are shown on TV.
Last but not least, she wanted to stand up for women, especially mothers. The report brought attention to the deficiencies that require addressing to achieve genuine representation in the content people create and consume. The Duchess expressed her pride in being able to contribute to the report through her Archewell Foundation. However, this was not the only time Meghan Markle championed issues that affect parents.
Meghan Markle has also voiced support for parents troubled by the influence of social media on their children, a concern she related to as a parent.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex organized the Archewell Foundation’s first-ever in-person summit, last year, in October. The summit focused on shaping a more secure online landscape for children and teens. It also featured emotional testimonies from parents who had suffered tragic losses due to their child’s social media involvement. During the summit, the Suits alum opened up about her fears as a parent.
Markle shared her concerns about her children using social media in the future, admitting to feeling “worried” about it. She was grateful that her children are still young and it is not an immediate issue. However, the Duchess still expressed being “frightened” by the rapid changes in social media. Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s dedication to advocating for parents worldwide truly reflects their own strong commitment to parenthood.
