Meghan Markle, Prince Harry, and Copyright for Lilibet: What’s the Story Behind the Princess’ Name?
The royal names Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have their regal ways. Ever so enwrapped in the majestic manners, it seems that the royal couple do not just go to great lengths for their children at the moment, but did the same before they were even born. Especially in the case of Princess Lilibet, this trait is resoundingly true in every sense, as Markle had allegedly filed for copyrights for the name ‘Lilibet’ way before her birth.
That might stir quite an unexpected nudge among fans across the globe. However, to side with the royals for this one, they seem to have had good enough reasons and a compelling backstory for doing the same.

Royal expert, Angela Levin confessed recently how the royal couple copyrighted the name Lilibet even before she was born. She explained on GB News how the name Lilibet was first used by the late monarch, Queen Elizabeth II. As a child, she often fumbled pronouncing the name Elizabeth. Ultimately, she ended up reiterating the name in bits and pieces. That is how the cueing at the emergence of the name Lilibet began. And when her grandfather, King George V, took notice of the same, he began imitating her attempts to utter the name.
From there onwards, he began calling her Lilibet while giving a nod for it to be her childhood nickname. Levin added that the name was “for her family, her parents, and the Duke of Edinburgh.” She also admitted that it was something that the family “called her it out of love, it’s very intimate.” Hence, when the pair filed copyrights for the name before their Markle’s pregnancy, Levin felt that it was a “very disrespectful” move.
While the undertakings could be “appalling” to the royal experts, the controversy around the name is not something new.
Conflicts surrounding the name ‘Lilibet’
Previously, the raising of eyebrows regarding the name of Princess Lilibet Diana was in clear view and revealed by the royal biographer Gyles Brandreth. Furthermore, Robert Hardman’s Charles III: New King, New Court, The Inside Story, which was serialized by Daily Mail, also read something along similar lines. It said how an aide at the royal household witnessed Queen Elizabeth fuming “after the Sussexes announced that she had given them her blessing to call their baby daughter ‘Lilibet'”.

As per the reports, Queen Elizabeth was definitely consulted about the name. However, she was allegedly not able to say no despite her reluctance. Hardman had written how the Queen was lamenting that “now they’ve taken” the name when that was the only thing of hers. Now, with Levin blasting the Sussex couple over the same, it might feel that the conflicting rows have resurfaced. Nevertheless, let’s hope that like all times, Markle and Prince Harry overcomes this test of fire as well.
