Sentebale, the charity co-founded by Prince Harry and Prince Seeiso in 2006 to honor Princess Diana’s legacy, has long championed support for vulnerable children in Lesotho. Yet behind its altruistic mission, a storm brewed recently. Tensions escalated after a public clash involving Meghan Markle, culminating in Prince Harry’s abrupt resignation and an alleged contentious email exchange that exposed rifts within the organization.
A source revealed Prince Harry’s stern demand for Sophie Chandauka, Sentebale’s chair, to publicly defend Meghan Markle - a request she refused, igniting a bitter standoff.

According to The Telegraph, Prince Harry sent an “unpleasant” and “imperious” message to Sophie Chandauka, urging her to issue a statement dismissing rumors of discord between Meghan Markle and Sentebale. The demand followed Chandauka’s initial refusal to comply with requests from Prince Harry’s staff. When she declined again, he personally pressed her to “explain herself,” per sources. A Sentebale spokesperson confirmed the message’s existence, hinting ominously, “There is a document.”

The clash marked a dramatic rupture in Prince Harry's years-long affiliation with Sentebale. Chandauka has also claimed Prince Harry attempted to remove her from the organization through mistreatment, claims dismissed by some as a publicity stunt. Insiders described the message as tone-deaf, given Chandauka’s focus on the charity’s mission. Critics argued his intervention prioritized personal image over organizational integrity, deepening scrutiny of his post-royal leadership.
The message feud traced back to an awkward polo match incident, where Meghan Markle’s surprise appearance fueled speculation of behind-the-scenes friction.
The polo event that sparked royal tensions with the charity
The controversy erupted after Meghan Markle attended the Royal Salute Polo Challenge in Miami in April, 2024. A video showed her guiding Sophie Chandauka away from Prince Harry during a trophy presentation, sparking rumors of animosity. Chandauka later clarified that Markle’s attendance was unplanned, she arrived with Serena Williams and a Netflix crew despite earlier confirming she would not appear. The last-minute change caused chaotic overcrowding, prompting Markle to adjust positions onstage.

While Chandauka framed the incident as a logistical misstep, the optics reinforced narratives of Markle’s strained rapport with Sentebale. The charity’s refusal to defend the Duchess publicly, coupled with Prince Harry’s resignation, governance concerns within Sentebale also contributed to his departure reportedly, underscored a widening divide between the Sussexes and the organization meant to uphold Princess Diana’s humanitarian spirit.
