Meghan Markle Mixed Up Her First Public Speech as a Royal and No One Noticed, Here’s Why
Standing before a sea of faces, with everyone’s gaze fixed on you, it is only natural to feel embarrassed when things do not go according to plan. Well, not for Meghan Markle. The Duchess of Sussex, who introduced a new dynamic to the royal family, already formed a royal perception of her even before she wed Prince Harry. Her oozing confidence, and elegant-polished demeanor, allowed her to blend in seamlessly with the royals.
However, her background as an actress also came in handy in sparing her from an embarrassing situation as she was on the cusp of joining the royal family. During her first public address as Prince Harry’s fiancée, Markle made a blunder that went under the radar of the audience.

Recently, the Invictus Games Foundation director David Wiseman sat down for a talk with Hello! A Right Royal Podcast. During the conversation, Wiseman recalled the 2018 Endeavor Fund Awards in London. In this event, Markle delivered her first speech as an about-to-be royal. Because of some confusion, Wiseman accidentally delivered the wrong script to Markle, which led to an awkward mishap on stage. However, the Suits alum skillfully turned the awkwardness into contagious laughter among the crowd.
Markle and her co-host, Neil Heritage, ended up having two different versions of the script. This gave rise to a funny banter between the two. Both Meghan and Heritage broke out in laughter as they were not able to find the correct piece of paper on the podium. Later, when Wiseman tried to apologize to Harry for the mishap, Markle jumped in between saying, “David, it’s M, honestly, really really, don’t worry about it”.
While Markle got the opportunity to have a public address before marriage, Kate Middleton did not give her first speech until nearly a year after her royal wedding.

Kate Middleton married Prince William in the year 2011. A year after their marriage, Middleton stepped out in public to deliver her first speech as a royal member at a new children’s hospice in Ipswich, UK. The 41-year-old had the opportunity to officially open The Treehouse, which is a part of the East Anglia Children’s Hospices, and deliver her self-written speech.
She began her address by thanking everyone for accepting her as a patron and also apologized for Prince William’s absence, congratulating the center for their “extraordinary” achievements. Despite being nervous, as she herself told the People, Princess Catherine aced the speech without a hitch. Though there is almost no chance for reconciliation between the Sussexes and the Waleses anymore, it is safe to say that both the royal ladies nailed their speeches in their own unique way.
