Meghan Markle’s Media Horrors Laid Bare by James O’Brien, Comparing Her Pregnancy Press With Kate Middleton’s
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have never been shy about calling out the UK press. Ever since their relationship went public, they have been vocal about what they see as unfair treatment by the British tabloids. From accusations of bullying to pointing out the not-so-subtle alleged racism in their coverage, they have argued that the media has held them to a completely different standard than Prince William and Kate Middleton. This was also pointed out by a popular British presenter and writer some years back.
James O'Brien brought attention to how the UK press treated Markle unfairly compared to Kate Middleton, by focusing on their respective pregnancy coverage.

Back in 2021, when Meghan Markle announced her second pregnancy, the media, as usual, jumped on the story, with a flood of coverage. But the way her pregnancy was nothing like the way they covered Kate Middleton during her pregnancy, as pointed out by James O'Brien on LBC. While headlines about Middleton focused on how gracefully she handled her royal duties alongside her pregnancy, Markle was tagged with words like “vanity” and “pride” simply because she was photographed cradling her baby bump.
The double standards did not stop there. When Prince William gave Middleton an avocado, the media framed it as a sweet and caring gesture. But when Prince Harry did the same for Markle, it was somehow linked to “human rights abuse and drought.” The tone of these headlines was a clear example of how Markle was consistently portrayed in a negative light, while her sister-in-law was shown in a much more positive way. Even today, it seems the same pattern is still playing out.
Meghan Markle recently pitched in to help victims of the LA wildfires. But even her act of kindness was not spared by the media and they found a way to spin it negatively.
Meghan Markle scrutinized for simply doing good word
Meghan Markle has been deeply affected by the wildfires that have caused so much devastation in the state. Naturally, she and Prince Harry have tried to aid those in need, not only through donations but also by opening their home as a refuge for those in need. But, instead of receiving praise for her efforts, Markle found herself criticized—once again, mostly by the British press for supposedly trying to draw attention to herself. Of course, if she had done nothing, she would have been slammed for that too.

On the other side of the world, though, the mood was much different. In the US and Canada, people were rooting for her. Many American and Canadian publications highlighted Markle’s efforts and gave her credit where it was due. It is not hard to see why Markle reportedly feels unwanted in the UK and is said to be hesitant about returning. The stark contrast in how the press treats the two royal daughters-in-law speaks for itself.
