Meghan Markle is a celebrity with one of the most polarizing public opinion, and that is a fact. The Duchess of Sussex constantly trends in the news for facing critiques from various royal insiders and commentators. But maybe that is the price a celebrity of her stature, who boldly goes against long-standing traditions, has to pay in this highly critical world. Recently, she drew criticism again, after she graced the red carpet at Variety’s Power of Women event.  

An editor of a major publication asserted that Meghan Markle lacked the charm on the red carpet as she was not accompanied by her husband, Prince Harry. 

Meghan Markle faced harsh comparison with Kate Middleton 

Richard Eden, the editor of The Daily Mail, recently shared his thoughts about Meghan Markle, while writing in the latest edition of his Palace Confidential newsletter. Referencing the Power of Women event, he said that the Duchess, without Prince Harry, “could not have looked less regal” on the red carpet. He labeled Meghan Markle a “wannabe starlet,” criticizing her for not standing out among the other celebrities at the vent. He then juxtaposed Markle’s red-carpet presence with that of Kate Middleton. 

Kate Middleton recently appeared at the opulent state banquet at Buckingham Palace to greet the South Korean president Yoon Suk Yeol. Eden added that “the contrast was striking” between the two royal ladies, as one “stole the show” and the other looked like “just another celebrity waiting to be interviewed”. Eden also commented on Markle’s influence in Hollywood, which he felt was “no longer in her own hands”. However, Markle’s interview at the event said otherwise. 

Meghan Markle teased her return to Hollywood at the Power of Women event moments before her pictures with two of the major players in Tinsel Town started breaking the internet. 

Is Markle gearing up for her Hollywood comeback? 

Speculations about Meghan Markle’s return to Hollywood have been swirling around for months. However, the Duchess never gave out any statement to confirm or deny the rumors until now. In Variety’s event which had numerous Hollywood celebs in attendance, Markle discussed the ‘exciting’ new project she has been working on in collaboration with her production house, Archewell Productions. Following the interview, a few pictures featuring Markle with two leading players in Hollywood surfaced. 

Markle posed with Janet Yang, who is an influential American producer and the current President of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. She also smiled for the camera during a meal with Pearlena Igbokwe, Nigerian-born chairman of Universal Studio Group, who also runs the NBC TV network. Despite Richard Eden casting doubt on Meghan Markle’s prospects in Hollywood, these pictures might be major hints of her eventual return to the industry.
