Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's recent visit to a Western African country has been rich with echoes of Princess Diana's presence. A poignant reminder of this connection emerged during Markle's appearance in Abuja on May 11, where she wore a meaningful necklace gifted by the Duke, once owned by her late mother-in-law. Markle's jewelry collection often includes pieces from Prince Harry's mother, and this new addition is a delicate diamond cross on a gold chain, according to a report from PEOPLE magazine.

Accompanying the necklace, the Duchess donned a St. Agni strapless column dress. Markle and the Prince were graciously welcomed at the reception hosted at the Defense Headquarters Officers’ Mess, where an official recognized her Nigerian heritage in their speech. Yet, this was not the sole gesture through which the Duchess honored her late mother-in-law. According to reports, on May 10, Markle might have subtly paid tribute to Princess Diana by wearing a gold collar necklace reminiscent of one worn by the Princess during her visit to Nigeria over 30 years ago in 1990.

Nigeria, native to the Duchess and a second home to Prince Harry, has always held significance to the royal pair. However, with Princess Diana’s imprints on the soil that dates back years, the place bears twice the importance of its mark. Hence, acknowledging those contributions from the past, Senator Uba Sani honored the Duke and the Duchess with special tokens of honor, among which included a portrait of the late Princess and Prince Harry.

To accept the thoughtful gesture, the Prince was dressed in Nigerian robes to feel closer to the roots. The pictures from the moment were shared by the Senator on X, who wholeheartedly welcomed the Duke, displaying their finest efforts. Hence, it is only justified that Markle would have found a way to seize the day and put her best foot forward to honor her mother-in-law, and her way was no less memorable than the Nigerians’ hearty attempts.
