Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's recent visit to a Western African country has been rich with echoes of Princess Diana's presence. A poignant reminder of this connection emerged during Markle's appearance in Abuja on May 11, where she wore a meaningful necklace gifted by the Duke, once owned by her late mother-in-law. Markle's jewelry collection often includes pieces from Prince Harry's mother, and this new addition is a delicate diamond cross on a gold chain, according to a report from PEOPLE magazine.
Accompanying the necklace, the Duchess donned a St. Agni strapless column dress. Markle and the Prince were graciously welcomed at the reception hosted at the Defense Headquarters Officers’ Mess, where an official recognized her Nigerian heritage in their speech. Yet, this was not the sole gesture through which the Duchess honored her late mother-in-law. According to reports, on May 10, Markle might have subtly paid tribute to Princess Diana by wearing a gold collar necklace reminiscent of one worn by the Princess during her visit to Nigeria over 30 years ago in 1990.
Like Markle and the Prince, the Senator of Nigeria also addressed Princess Diana and her contributions with a special gesture of honor aimed towards the bearers of her heritage.
