In an interview with The New York Times, Hansen said, “I think that’s abhorrent.”

As soon as the incident came to light, people were reminded of Princess Diana’s death through a similar accident. And Hansen did not flinch when she pointed out how ridiculous it would be for the Sussexes to stage such an incident, given their family history.

Even as the majority join in to laugh at a car chase in New York being out of the question, the Sussexes reps maintain the same story.

Why do people think the Sussex car chase is a PR stunt?

The biggest element that weakened the credibility of the news was the dramatic nature of the statement. Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s spokesperson said it was a “two-hour car chase“ in New York City. The irony of the statement does not escape even those who have never been to the city, as it remains notorious worldwide for its heavy traffic.

Then came the news of Prince Harry’s lawyer fighting for the Duke’s right to “challenge a government decision that denied him the right to pay for police protection” whenever he flies back to his country as per the Associated Press. Many deemed it too good to be a coincidence that the Sussexes would be involved in a dangerous car chase on the very day his lawyer fights for his right to pay for police protection.

It is important to note, however, that the decision that the UK government reaches will not affect the Sussexes’ lives in the U.S., where the kerfuffle unfolded.
