Prince Harry and Meghan Markle initially crossed paths in London. However, their relationship took a turn when the Californian couple traded royal life for sunshine. Choosing a new chapter in the United States, they rubbed shoulders with influential figures in the entertainment industry. However, their continuous exposes on the royal family became a bitter pill for many to swallow. Consequently, according to a Newsweek poll in September, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry found themselves in the American doghouse more than in its good graces. But not for long.

It seems like the winds of change have finally started to blow. The Sussexes are now boasting a higher approval rating among Americans than before. But what went down in these two months that made this shift happen?

A year down the road from the Netflix show controversy, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have made a comeback in the hearts of Americans, as per a recent Redfield & Wilton poll for Newsweek. Hot off the press on December 8, this poll quizzed 1,500 Americans on their take on the Sussexes. As per the results, the Sussexes are back in the game with their best net approval ratings in ten rounds of polling, which had plummeted following the release of Harry & Meghan.

One of the primary drivers behind this shift is the Sussexes’ decision to put a lid on discussions about the royal family. Their attention has shifted markedly toward their personal pursuits, be it their Hollywood return, entrepreneurial ventures, or charitable undertakings. This strategic evolution in their presentation and branding has been proving to be a key driver of positive sentiments among Americans. However, the sentiments are not echoing the same for King Charles.

In the last few months, there has been a lot of speculations about the potential healing of rifts between Prince Harry and King Charles. This gained traction, especially after reports hinted that Prince Harry made a call to his father on his 75th birthday last month. However, according to royal expert Ingrid Seward’s statement to Hello Magazine, King Charles might be “a bit relieved” to avoid a run-in with his estranged son during the holiday season.

Seward believed, given the current monarch’s tough year, tiptoeing around the Sussexes would not be the best way to end 2023 for him. Furthermore, the recently released BBC documentary about King Charles’ first year on the throne did not even have a mention of the Sussexes. That said, whether Prince Harry and Meghan Markle can win over King Charles the way they won a majority of American hearts remains a question that only time will answer.
