It has been four long years since Meghan Markle and Prince Harry left the royal frontiers of the UK to settle down in their Stateside retreat, citing security reasons. After enduring numerous legal battles to regain their privacy, the Duke and Duchess have taken extraordinary measures to ensure the safety of their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. Unfortunately, despite the time that has elapsed since their move, their security concerns have only grown.

A close friend recently revealed that these ongoing worries are preventing them from taking their children out in public.

As Prince Harry continues to fight for increased security for their family of four, the haunting memories of Princess Diana’s death due to a paparazzi chase weigh heavily on him and Meghan Markle, especially now that they are parents. A friend close to the Sussex couple exclusively told PEOPLE that their security concerns are the main reason they are "reluctant to show" their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, in public.

The source emphasized that their unwillingness is not about wanting to "hide" their children but about protecting them from "potential threats." The Duke reportedly desires a normal life for his children without the constant fear of kidnapping or harm. As a result, reflecting on his roles as a husband and father, he is resolute in ensuring that "history doesn’t repeat itself."

Not only Prince Harry but Meghan Markle also has been on a mission to protect their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, whether the threat is physical or online. Despite their legal battles causing friction with the Palace’s decisions, a close friend of the Sussexes revealed to PEOPLE that Prince Harry no longer wants to continue this fight. Instead, he desires to mend his relationship with his estranged family.

Meghan Markle fully supports Prince Harry but wishes they could move past the lawsuits. Her primary concern is the well-being of their children and her husband's happiness. According to a former employee of the Archewell Foundation, Markle wants the Duke to “live in the moment,” acknowledging that his efforts are driven by love for their children. While it is uncertain when this burden might be lifted, for now, they remain steadfast in their reluctance to publicly showcase their children.
