New York City is buzzing with social causes, and Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, leading the charge with their Archewell Foundation, are right in the thick of it. The royal couple’s visit to the city was all about raising awareness of mental health issues on World Mental Health Day. Their efforts were not confined to just hosting summits and school visits; they also aligned with the celebration of International Day of the Girl Child, making it a two-fold impact on the community.

The celebration included a special gathering with Troop 6000, and it left the royal couple absolutely delighted. Their participation was not limited to just joining in; they also pulled off some heartwarming gestures for the troop.

Founded in 2017, Troop 6000 has a noble mission – to provide girls residing in New York City’s homeless shelters with an opportunity to become Girl Scouts and chase their dreams. Tailored for girls between the ages of 5 and 18, it is more than just a community; it is a thriving hub with aspirations as vast as the horizon. On October 11, the Archewell Foundation lent its support in a beautiful celebration of International Day of the Girl Child alongside the New York Scouts.

Since then, it has extended its reach, touching the lives of over a thousand girls across approximately 25 shelter locations. Their involvement was not just about marking the occasion; they were positively over the moon to share dinner with the troop leaders. What is more, the foundation went the extra mile and was “thrilled”. It generously contributes scarves, beanies, and tote bags. The foundation after tying with Geanco Foundation this time furthered another message as it echoed their pride in celebrating girls, both near and far.

Back in 2020, the royal couple had something truly remarkable up their sleeves for yet another celebration of the day.

International Day of the Girl with global icon- Malala Yousafzai

Markle and Prince Harry teamed up with Malala Yousafzai to mark International Day of the Girl back in 2020. The trio engaged in a live video chat, shedding light on the obstacles hindering millions of girls’ access to education and the importance of championing their right to learn. The Duchess and the Duke emphasized the societal and personal benefits of education, especially during the pandemic.

While Prince Harry highlighted its role in addressing climate change. The couple also cherished family moments, watching their son, Archie, grow. The former Suits actor’s long-standing advocacy for girls’ education made her support the Association of Commonwealth Universities. Notably, Prince Harry and Malala Yousafzai had a memorable encounter at the 2014 We Day event in London.
