The royal family has sent the online rumor- and conspiracy-mill into overdrive by now. Fans are keeping a watchful eye on every royal happening, hoping to separate truth from fiction amidst the sea of sensational theories. While fans are satisfying their intrigue and frustrated epistemic psychological needs, the royal family is under a situation of crisis due to this scrutiny. As UK residents navigate their rough patch, they seemingly cast a sideways glance at the estranged royals, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry, miles away.

The Sussexes, who left the royal fold behind them four years ago, apparently received a friendly nod from the family, right after Buckingham decided to allegedly downgrade them.

The Sussexes’ information and bios mysteriously vanished from The Royal Family site on Monday night. But just a short while later, they popped right back up. Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s bios got merged on the site, with some details trimmed down. Right after this supposed downgrade from Buckingham Palace, the royal family extended a potential olive branch to the Sussexes by linking the couple’s recently launched website, sussex.com on The Royal Family site.

Prince Harry and Markle’s original bios were quite lengthy- the Duke’s ran to 2,700 words, while the Duchess’ was not far behind at 1,300. Now, their bios have a mere 500 words combined. The revised bio gives a brief overview of the couple’s background, their children, and their decision to step back from their royal roles. But, there is also an important line that says, “information about the current work of The Duke and Duchess of Sussex can be found on their official website: sussex.com“.

Sussex.com, however, also became a bone of contention in royal circles, as it seemed to breach a key agreement that the late Queen Elizabeth had struck with Meghan Markle and Prince Harry.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry launched their website, Sussex.com, just last month. However, it was the wording on the homepage that became controversial, with the description that said, “The office of Prince Harry & Meghan, the Duke, and Duchess of Sussex”. Many saw this as a violation of their pledge not to exploit their royal titles for profit, a promise they had made to Queen Elizabeth. However, there were some differing opinions as well.

A report from the Daily Mail highlighted favorable sentiments among some fans who firmly believed that Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are, indeed, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, with no debate. It is their true surname and family name, and there should not be any objections to its official use. With the reinstatement of the Sussexes’ bios on the official royal family website, along with a mention of their personal website, it seems Buckingham Palace does not have any qualms about Sussex.com either.
