Though the Sussex saga has already filled novels’ worth of updates, a new German documentary is on the horizon, promising to distill years of headlines into one tidy package.

According to Vanity Fair’s latest report, German network ZDF will air a new documentary about Meghan Markle and Prince Harry to give viewers a closer look at their lives after relocating Stateside in Montecito’s exclusive enclave in Santa Barbara. Ulrike Grünewald has directed the documentary, Prince Harry—The Lost Prince, and the filmmaker has reportedly interviewed the Sussex couple’s neighbors on a visit to the town.

The documentary will be streaming on the network on December 3. It allegedly focuses on the couple’s “search for relevance” following their quitting as working royals, their move, and lives in California since 2020. In a press release, ZDF stressed the Prince’s “self-imposed exile” to explain how he remains a public figure with promising commitments on social radar. Although it acknowledged the Duke as a “controversial figure,” ZDF also highlighted the role of the relentless paparazzi becoming a “thorn in his side.”

Ulrike Grünewald has also explained that working on the documentary has given her the bigger picture of royal soil, which accompanies a critical analysis of the Sussexes.

It looks like Meghan Markle’s Netflix show is not the only thing on the calendar about the Sussexes since Ulrike Grünewald’s Prince Harry—The Lost Prince is about to fan the flames of another royal storm this December. In an interview with Express, the director said she could finally understand the reasons behind the concerns that consistently fly out from the UK corridors regarding the Duke and the Duchess. 

Like the royal experts, Grünewald also did not mince her words while admitting she hardly sees “any big achievement of their Archewell Foundation.” However, she confessed there are “voices who see the high potential of the couple not only for the British monarchy but also for a liberal society.” Hence, she may kill two birds with a stone, serving their fans and detractors a full-packaged reality check by bringing this documentary to the forefront.
