Prince Harry and Meghan Markle decided to pay an unexpected visit to the family of Irma Garcia, a teacher who tragically lost her life during the Uvalde school massacre. Sadly, Irma Gracia’s husband passed away just two days after the tragic incident due to a heart attack. The Sussexes traveled to Uvalde last Saturday to spend some quality time with the family. Irma Garcia’s nephew, shared pictures of Markle conversing with him on his driveway and also shared to HELLO! that “it truly meant the world” to them.
John shared that the visit was filled with tears of happiness and touching moments. He described Prince Harry and Meghan Markle as exceptionally kind and humble individuals. The Sussexes’ surprise visit happened to line up with John’s mom’s birthday bash, and in his update, he let everyone know that the couple jumped right into the celebrations, even bringing along a birthday cake. However, the Californian couple’s backing for the family and the Uvalde victims is not restricted to just dropping by their homes.
The Sussexes, via their Archewell foundation, also pitched in to enhance the community’s welfare and offer support.

The Archewell Foundation teamed up with the City of Uvalde and KABOOM!, an organization deeply dedicated to the community following the 2022 mass shooting at Robb Elementary. Together, they established a park just four blocks from the school. The local community contributed creative ideas for their ideal playground, including slides, swings, merry-go-rounds, and tetherballs.
In fact, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were in Uvalde for a local event to assist Uvalde families, and not just Garcia’s. The event was organized by KABOOM! Markle initially connected with the Garcias shortly after the 2022 shooting, during her visit to Uvalde to honor the victims. Despite the passage of two years, she continues to offer her support and compassion to the family.
