Politicians have been drawing endorsements from celebrities since the 1950s. Not much has changed, really. This year, both Kamala Harris and Donald Trump have rallied a lineup of celebrity supporters. While it is debatable whether these endorsements help politicians, voters do take notice when celebrities throw their weight behind a candidate. For instance, Taylor Swift’s recent backing of Kamala Harris helped bring in thousands of dollars for her campaign. However, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have no plans of aligning with any political party.
Though the Sussexes have shown interest in US politics and encouraged voter turnout, a recent report has shed light on their stance when it comes to endorsing political parties.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are choosing to keep a low profile during this presidential election. A Vanity Fair source recently revealed that the couple supports voter registration but will not endorse any political party. Recently, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex released a statement on their Archewell Foundation website to encourage citizens to cast their votes. To mark National Voter Registration Day, the Archewell Foundation even organized a non-partisan letter-writing campaign. However, the couple did not participate in the activity.

The internal event was optional for staff, and Meghan Markle and Prince Harry were fully behind their team’s efforts. Now whether celebrities can sway the outcome of elections is a matter of debate, but their advocacy for voting has clearly led to a boost in voter participation. Still, given the Duke and Duchess’ slipping popularity in the US, it is hard to say if they can make a real difference.
Earlier this month, some neighbors of the Sussexes shared their eagerness for the couple to pack up and move out of the neighborhood- further reflecting their declining popularity in the US.

Forget the royal family or the commentators- even the neighbors of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are not keen on seeing them in America. According to a report from The News last December, one anonymous neighbor said they "can’t wait" for Meghan Markle to leave Montecito. Meanwhile, Frank McGinity, a Navy veteran living next door, was less critical but claimed he was "turned away" at their gates.

McGinity was reportedly sent away after approaching the gate with some local history films to help the Sussexes adjust to their new surroundings. He said, "They're not interested". Meghan Markle was also accused of mistreating her staff recently, which has further taken a toll on her public image. Given the couple’s declining popularity and controversial reputation in the US, it seems unlikely that their political endorsement would lead to anything substantial in the Presidential election.
