When half the world abandoned Meghan Markle and Prince Harry upon exiting the royal family, some stood by them through it all. Among that crowd were many celebrity couples like the Beckhams. So, for the Sussexes it was a mere life hurdle of ‘win some and lose some’ initially. However, lately, the duo has suffered a loss in popularity owing to seemingly hypocritical media stunts. Amidst all that, their long-time friends Victoria and David Beckham also declared a fallout with the two. 

The Beckams withdrawing their show of support has left a deep impact on the already scarce list of trusted celebrity friends of the Sussexes. But it was nothing that a little reconnecting with old Hollywood pal and elite celebrity Amal Clooney could not make up.

Meghan Markle and Amal Clooney’s once close friendship 

It was known earlier that George and Amal Clooney were among the guests that graced the wedding ceremony of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry. Apparently, even one year after that day, Amal Clooney was still quite impressed with Markle. In 2019, a source close to Amal Clooney disclosed to Radar Online that she and Markle were “fast friends” back then. Not only that, it was also claimed that the former was actually “obsessed” with the Suits star. 

George Clooney is an American superstar almost everyone has heard of. However, his wife Amal Clooney is a British barrister well versed in her country’s affairs. So, it is a given that the latter can grasp the severity of the UK happenings. This is all the more reason why her siding with Meghan Markle and Prince Harry is significant. Evidently, she once sympathized and supported the mother of two like herself.

While the British beauty was the only one deemed obsessed with the Duchess of Sussex, her husband did not leave her side even when she adapted a polarizing stance.

What did George Clooney think of the Sussexes?

Although the couples gradually drifted away from each other later, they were clearly close once. Previously, even George Clooney had spoken highly of both the royals. At the time of their infamous New York baby-shower, the Sussexes were flown there on the Clooney’s private jet too! Besides all the fame that both couples were familiar with, they seemed to share many other common interests too.

Despite that mutual respect, the Clooney later went the Beckham way and distanced themselves from the Sussexes. Except, their distancing seemed to be a much more toned-down version of events. If this unfortunate turn of events had not transpired, the couple would have made for a perfect ally for the rebelious royals. Especially because of the affinity both sides have for philanthropic work.
