In a recent GQ magazine interview, actor Russell Crowe spoke about his experience working on big-budget films, including Marvel movies. Recalling his fair share of experiences, Crowe said he had signed up for a Marvel project but did not find it as emotionally fulfilling as he had hoped. “I’ve also experienced the Marvel dark universe with Kraven the Hunter,” he said. He further described the Marvel machine as producing films on a large scale, prioritizing size over depth. 

Speaking of Johnson’s recent statements of shared authority over art, Crowe emphasized that these projects are just jobs, saying, "Here's your role, play the role." He warned that if someone is expecting a life-changing experience, then the cinematic industry might not be the best place to be at. Having said that, the Thor actor refrained from commenting on Johnson any further stating his time at Marvel was not particularly bad.

Actress Dakota Johnson spoke out about the film industry in a recent Bustle cover story. She expressed her concerns about the role of committees and data-driven decision-making in big-budget films, stating that "art does not do well when it's made by committee." Johnson noted that even smaller films are starting to fall victim to this approach, which prioritizes "numbers and algorithms" over creative vision.

The TeaTime producer emphasized that films are best made by a filmmaker and a team of artists, not by relying on data analysis. She believes that the audience is smart enough to spot when a film lacks authenticity. Even with the potential rise of AI-made films, Johnson thinks humans will always prefer films with a personal touch. Her comments come in light of the tension between art and commerce in the film industry, with her latest subpar project Madame Web being a prime example of this struggle.
